Alexander S. “Alex” McCurdy, age 66, of Sylvan Way, Greenville passed away Friday evening, January 27, 2017 in Meadville Medical Center.
He was born in Greenville on March 8, 1950, a son of Wells and Nancy (McDowell) McCurdy. He was a 1968 graduate of Greenville High School where he excelled on the football team and golf team and was a 1972 graduate of Grove City College with a degree in political science. He was a member of Hillside Presbyterian Church, Greenville. He was employed at Ryder Co. before taking over the family business, S.S. Counseling the states youth, he retired as a clinical manager from George Junior Republic, Grove City in the summer of 2016. A master of his craft, he continued to work part time at George's Jewelry, Meadville. An enthusiastic hunter and golfer, Alex truly enjoyed spending time outdoors. Alex was always prepared for having fun and quite often ready with a quick joke or witty remark and was a loving man of great wit who will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his mother, Nancy McCurdy of Greenville; two daughters, Melissa Raber and her husband Anthony of Pittsburgh, Elizabeth McCurdy of Greenville; a son Jon McCurdy and his wife Ann of Pittsburgh; a sister, Madge Nichols and her husband Dennis of Beaver, PA; a brother, Wells McCurdy of Falls Church, VA; five grandchildren, Madison, Matthew, Nicholas, Samuel, and Simon; three nephews; his previous wife, Christine McCurdy of Greenville; and best friend, Earl Fenton of Greenville.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Dear McCurdy Family, I am so sorry to hear about Alex and the terrible loss that you all feel. My deepest condolences to all of your family. Alex was a wonderful young man in our GS Class of 1968, and I have the fondest memories of grinning through Biology together and how he encouraged the trepidation I felt and helped bolster my self-confidence that I could learn it, and by some hard work, it would start coming easily, and it did. He was a friend to everyone and made me laugh every time I talked to him. He is missed by all of us.
So sorry to hear of Alex’s passing my prayers for the family, he will be missed
