Bernie was employed for over forty years in steel industry in various management positions with US Steel in Pittsburgh, Ellwood City, Gary Indiana and with Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel in Steubenville, OH until his retirement in 1998. Upon retirement, he and Gail spent twenty wonderful years as Florida residents in Englewood enjoying the “snowbird life”. Bernie was a well-liked and a just man. In retirement he attended daily Mass and volunteered with the Saint Vincent DePaul Society and was a St. Stephen Minister. He loved hunting the fields of Ohio trying to keep the groundhog population out of the farmers’ way.

Bernie leaves his devoted wife of 61 years, Gail (Patrick), two daughters: Monica (Danny) Sheppard and Carol (Roderick) Paul, four grandchildren; Nancy PaulHupin, David Paul, Nicolas Palmisano and Zachary Palmisano, two great grandchildren: Paul Hupin and Marie-Helene Hupin, numerous nephews and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Vivian Leko and her husband Albert and many aunts and uncles.

I had the pleasure of working with Bernie for many years as a United Steelworkers Union Representative. He was always fair and well liked. It saddens me to hear of his passing. Yet I rejoice that he is with the Lord now. Therefore, I extend my deepest sympathy and prayers to the Family.

    Gail and family,

We are quite sure Bernie is soaring with the angels, much as we soared across Costa Rica on zip lines, screaming and laughing like four old people! May all our memories carry us through these sad times, until we celebrate together! Love you, Mr. Renz and Lanie

Gail and family…Remember the love which will sustain you through this difficult time… he will live on because Tony and I purchased a Jim Sears carving of a barracuda and we name him Bernie Barracuda, It is hung above our sliding door going into the screened lanai. A wonderful man who deserves peace and rest.
