Dr. Edgardo R. Lob, M.D., of Greenville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on March 31st, 2021, at the age of 62.
Edgardo Rodolfo Lob was born on October 7th, 1958 in Lomas De Zamora, Argentina to Edgardo Marcelo Lob and Olga Anais Matijevic. His brother, Sergio, would later be born in 1960. When Ed was just 2 years old, his father relocated his family to Queens, NY so that he could give his wife and new sons a better life.
They would eventually settle on Long Island, NY where Ed would mostly grow up. Ed was a driven person from an early age and sought to learn as much as he could about the world – taking much interest in history, science, and culture. His drive to learn and compassionate nature led
him to pursue medical school at SUNY Stony Brook University, where he would complete his training in internal medicine and oncology.
Ed met the love of his life, Renata, while in pre-med and they would later go on to get married in 1984. Out of their love for one another, two sons - Daniel and Marcelo, would follow in 1988 and 1991. After graduating from medical school, Ed relocated his family to Greenville, PA where he would spend his career helping those around him fight cancer. Ed was known for his personable and caring manner and enjoyed working with his patients and fellow coworkers. He was in practice until he was forced to retire early due to his own battle with cancer. In his free time, Ed enjoyed traveling with his family, reading comic books, learning new languages, watching lectures, and stargazing with his telescope.
Ed is survived by his wife Renata, sons Daniel and Marcelo, Brother Sergio and his wife Andrea, and nephew Nico. He was proceeded in death by his parents Ed and Olga. He was a loving father, husband, friend, and physician and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
All services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Memorial Contributions may be made to the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at UPMC Cancer Pavilion 1B 5150 Centre Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15232. Arrangements have been entrusted to Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St., Greenville.

Renata, Daniel and Marcelo Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of sorrow. Dr. Lob was a good man and a great doctor. May he rest in peace.
Our hearts are hurting. Since 1998, Dr. Lob has been our doctor for Ron’s cancers. Always had a smile and he often laughed, but he was always a straight shooter. You knew when you asked a question he was going to give you the honest truth. It’s just so sad that he helped so many cancer patients and he couldn’t help himself. He will truly be missed. Sympathy for his work family and his own family.
My deepest sympathy to the Lob family. Dr. Lob was a kind, generous, caring man and a wonderful doctor. He always had a funny comment to me when he came into the lab. He will be sadly missed. God will surely find a special place for him.
Dr Lob was a great person and Dr. I was privileged to have him as a Dr who treated my cancer at stage 4. He was a very caring Dr
My Heartfelt and Deepest Sympathy to you Renata, Daniel and Marcelo. I will always remember Edgar with great affection
With love, Diana
A Heart of gold ! RIP Doc !
Our Deepest Condolences to Renata and the family . Ed will always be remembered as a man of care, character and compassion .
The Mindicino Family
I remember meeting Ed when he was deciding where to practice and wondering why such a well trained and urbane doctor would want to come to Greenville . But he did and we were all so blessed to have him here . It was a pleasure to work with him .
Rest in peace Dr. Lob. We will never forget his care and warmth and compassion during Gary’s treatments last fall. Our deepest sympathy to his wife, his sons and all family, friends and colleagues who loved him.
Muy triste la noticia de la partida de Ed, su familia de argentina siempre lo recordará con mucho cariño. Un fuerte abrazo para Renata, Sergio y sus hijos.
Dr. Lob took care of me in 1991/1992 and saved my life in more than one way. He was a remarkable man and showed compassion for everyone. i will forever think of him as an angel of God while he was on this Earth and is riding on a cloud right now. To the family, you have my deepest sympathy. RIP my friend.
So sorry for your loss. I worked with Dr Lob when he first came to Greenville. When I left the hospital
In Greenville, he said that they could replace the job but not the person doing the job! That meant so much to me. After my move south we still stayed in touch. On my visits home, I would have dinner with him and Renata or stop by the office to visit. Over the last several year we talked through Facebook. He was a reference for a research job I took at a local hospital. When I transferred to manager hospice, he would make jokes about that. All in good taste. The last time we spoke he shared his though about relocation to North Carolina.
I have so many wonderful encounter over the years with working with him and his friendships.
Just like he had told me, you can replace the person in the job but not the person doing the job.
Again, I am truly sadden by his passing.
Much love to the family.
Renata…In thinking about the fun we had in the past playing tennis, I am now thinking about this time of sadness for you and your sons. I was pleased to provide delivered milk products to your home when your sons were very young. My sincerest condolences to you.
Dear Renata and family,
My deepest condolences on the passing of your husband and father. I remember him fondly from our years of working together, and from knowing many of his patients who received excellent care from him. May God comfort you in the days ahead.
So sorry to hear of the loss of Dr.Lob.He took special care of My wife Jana for 25 years. He and his staff were the very best that you could ask for.He was always up on the latest and best treatments available along with the compassion to deliver it in a kind manner.I am sure God has a special place in heaven set aside for him.
Renata and Family, So sorry for your loss. Dr Lob was special to us, since he saved my husband twice, once 22 years ago and again recently. He was one special Dr. who truly cared about his patients. Prayers of comfort for You and Your Family. Mike and Judy
Although I never met Dr Lob in person I spoke to him and Renata many times over the phone as I planned their trips to Greece and Turkey! He was so nice and personable and funny too! We stayed in touch and we became Facebook friends for so many years! I was shocked when I saw this posting. My heart goes out to you Renata and family! He will truly be missed…
God’s speed to the entire Lob family. It is saddening to learn of Dr.Lob’s untimely passing. He discovered my wife Patty’s first cancer through Grove City Hospital and offered apologies for not having treatment facilities enough there for her. We both liked his well-rounded, friendly attitude very much. May he forever rest in peace!
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of dear Dr. Lob. He took care of both of my parents through the years. As many have already shared, he was always honest and straightforward regarding treatment but was very kind and compassionate. I was able to put a smile on his face one morning when he was behind me in the drive through at McDonalds… I had the pleasure of treating him to breakfast. He meant a lot to our family and will be missed. God bless you all as you go through this sad time.
Renata,
I am saddened to learn of your loss. I hope you and your sons find healing and peace.
No words can express the loss of such a wonderful person and Physician. We have known him since since the early 90’s then recently my husband has been a patient of his……truely a devastating loss. His encouraging words and warm smile will stay in our hearts forever. We appreciate all the hard work, dedication and genuine love he had for his extended family at Hillman Cancer Center. Deepest Sympathy from a few of many who will miss him……..
Ed was something different to me than many of you experienced. We became friends several years ago. Our friendship formed on the basis of collecting historical autographs. Then about five years ago my family moved from CA to ID. Since I’m a disabled veteran, I don’t get out a lot I have zero friends here. Ed was my best friend. Renata and Ed have been kind to my family. We never got to meet in-person even though I had planned such a time in my head. It was much to early and can’t help think with all our conversations how unfair this is. I will never stop missing you and I will miss our conversations whatever the topic might be.
Sorry to learn of Ed’s passing. He was there for us during Gina’s cancer journey. Always words of encouragement and a pat on the back. My condolences to the family.
I am so sorry for your loss as well as everyone who knew him. He was treating my girlfriend for stage 4 lung cancer and helps us alot. I will miss talking to him about coins I love coin collecting as much as he did even if my collection was tiny compared to his. May the lord be with you all. And may a cure for this horrible disease be found soon. Our love and prayers go out to you all.
Mrs Lob and Family. My heart was saddened to hear of the loss of Dr Lob. He was a true friend to all he touched and a listener when I needed to understand all my late husband was going through during his treatments. He will be very much missed by so many
My condolences and deepest sympathy to the family of Dr Lob. I was a current patient of Dr Lob’s and saw him this past December. As always a smile on his face and ready to chit chat about any adventures I had been on since he last saw me. I always enjoyed our conversations about life, places traveled or places we’d like to travel to. Dr Lob was always full of wisdom, encouragement and motivation. He always took the time to listen. He always took the time to “visit” I could ask him anything or talk to him about anything. He was full of knowledge and again wisdom. Witty and funny as well. Dr Lob was a caring and kind physician and human being. Always a pat on the back and the words Enjoy Life before he exited the exam room. He will be greatly missed and always remembered. I will get to the Bay Fundy to watch the high tides! My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Some good guidance in your post I’m able to put to use in my upcoming
plans. Thanks for finding the time to publish this, I’m certain it can help many people
as it has helped me.
