Eleanor Schumann Jamison, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and educator, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2018, at Arbor Acres Retirement Home in Winston-Salem, NC.
Eleanor was born on September 30, 1925, in Greenville, PA, the only child of Dorothy (Unger) and Gustav Schumann. She grew up in Greenville, graduated from Penn High School in 1943, then went on to Grove City College, where she was a member of Sigma Theta Chi sorority. She graduated from Grove City College in 1947 and began her career as a teacher at the high school in Sandy Lake, PA.
She continued teaching at Penn High School in Greenville for several years, then eventually completed a master’s degree at Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA, in 1953. She worked at Thiel College in Greenville as an instructor. She also served at Allegheny College in Meadville, PA, as Assistant Dean of Women.
Eleanor married Edgar L. (Jamie) Jamison, MD, on March 31, 1962. They made their home in Oil City, PA, and then moved to Asheboro, NC, in 1964. There they lived for many years, raising their two sons. Eleanor spent her summers at Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, NY, where she was a property owner for 30 years. Eleanor lived in Winston-Salem, NC, since 1994.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband. She is survived by her sons, Gustav C. Jamison, of Rolesville, NC, and James P. Jamison, MD, and his wife, Jamie Megeath Jamison of Canfield, OH, as well as her step-son, Thomas C. Jamison, also of Canfield, OH. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Matthew, Elise and Kellyn Jamsion, of Canfield, OH, as well as by step-grandchildren Peter Jamison (spouse Barbara Urbanczyk) and Robert Jamison (spouse Jennifer).

My condolences to the Jamison family. I know this is a difficult time for the family and I pray God comforts the family during this time of bereavement. May the many cherished and loving memories of Eleanor comfort her family and friends. A comforting thought to keep in mind is at Psalm 46″1 “God is our refuge and strength, a help that is readily found in times of bereavement. May you all have peace of mind during this time.
We are so sorry to learn of Eleanor’s death. We have such wonderful memories of her, and your entire family, when we were neighbors on Idlewood Drive. She had the most beautiful smile and a sparkle in her eyes, and she and Jamie were so proud of you boys. She was such an accomplished woman, and her beautifully written obituary is a lovely tribute to a long and fruitful life. I know you will miss her. Sam and I send our condolences to your family, and will be thinking of you in the days ahead.
Gus and Jim, so sorry to learn of your mom’s passing ! She was a beautiful woman, and an extremely good friend to the McElrees !! I can’t recall her ever NOT being an active part of our lives !! I remember knowing her, before you-Gus were even born !! So many memories of her joining in on the laughter at Dad’s humerous remarks…. I’m sure that he is humoring her now in their After-world. Incidently, other than Mom, I’m not sure if any of her Gville friends are still around to say good-bye, since the majority are now welcoming her in the After-world !!! I just finished reading a kindle book, The Fun of Dying, by Roberta Grimes; a brief but enlightening read about the afterlife, in which you may find some consolation in reading. My thoughts are with you….Incidently, I can still picture your Grandpa Schumann, so I’m sure they are together….
GUS AND JIM, WE REJOICE AT A SERVICE OF DEATH AND RESURRECTION FOR ELEANOR SCHUMANN JAMISON . THERE ARE TOO MANY STORIES (MYSTERIES, ROMANCE, BIOGRAPHIES, ETC.) TO DESCRIBE THE LIFE OF MRS. JAMISON. SHE WAS THE SAME AGE OF MY SISTER AND COUSINS WHOM SHE MENTORED IN LIFE AND RETIREMENT. HER CAREERS AS TEACHER, INSTRUCTOR, AND ASSISTANT DEAN OF WOMEN WERE EVERLASTING GIFTS FROM GOD. WE SHARED PLEASANT AND HAPPY DAYS AT ARBOR ACRES. I AM RICHER BECAUSE OF HER FRIENDSHIP AND CARING SPIRIT.
“IN THE BULB THERE IS A FLOWER; IN THE SEED, AN APPLE TREE; IN COCOONS, A HIDDEN PROMISE; BUTTERFLIES WILL SOON BE FREE! IN THE COLD OF AND SNOW OF WINTER THERE’S A SPRING THAT WAITS TO BE, UNREVEALED UNTIL ITS SEASON, SOMETHING GOD ALONE CAN SEE.”
“WHEN WE ALL GET TO HEAVEN, WHAT A DAY OF REJOICING THAT WILL BE! WHEN WE ALL SEE JESUS, WE’LL SING AND SHOUT THE VICTORY!”
RECEIVE ELEANOR SCHUMANN JAMISON INTO THE ARMS OF YOUR MERCY, INTO THE BLESSED REST OF EVERLASTING PEACE, AND INTO THE GLORIOUS COMPANY OF THE SAINTS OF LIGHT. (FROM THE UNITED METHODIST HYMNAL)
On behalf of one of Eleanors good friends in life, I am posting a message of sympathy.. my Aunt.. Leora Smith grew up and graduated the same year as Eleanor. They continued to be friends through cards and letters and best of all.. Chautauqua for many years. Even though her memory is closing , Chautauqua was and still is the best memory Leora has. If I am not mistaken, the dress shop we used to go to up there when we were little was owned by Eleanor. My sister Cherie and I have great memories of going there. Cherie remembers renting the apartment that Eleanor rented out during the summer and visiting with her. on behalf of Leora Smith and my sister and I, our sincere condolences to your family.
