I have a poster from WW1 with Herman Kaufman’s name and picture.
Herman would have been Evelyn’s uncle. I would like to pass it on to family member,
Miss Kaufman was my first grave teacher at Columbia School in 1948, she was one of my favorite teachers of all time, may she Rest In Peace. What a great person she was in life!
I traveled with Evelyn, some other townspeople, Thiel faculty and students on a January break in approximately 1981. We lived in Saltillo, Mexico for three weeks, attending classes and cultural events. We stayed in the home of a Mexican family. At one point, Evelyn, Michael Pistolesi and I flew to Mexico City for some sightseeing. Evelyn had said that this was her first trip outside Mercer County, and there we were travelling on busses, some along with chickens, a wildly driven taxi and a bouncing prop plane … in another country! It was a memorable ‘study abroad’ for us. She was a real trouper and a lot of fun!
Miss Kauffmann was my favorite teacher that I ever had. She instilled a love of learning and books in me that exists to this day. I saw her about 15 years ago and she knew me by name. An amazing woman, I loved her! Rest in Peace Miss Kauffmann
Evelyn (Miss) Kaufman) was my First grade teacher at the old Columbia School in 1947/48. She was beloved by her students and filled many with a love of learning and reading. Even back then there was much competition to “get into” her class. I don’t know if there are many kike her in the classroom today. I hope there is
My beloved first grade teacher 1960/61….what a gal. I saw her five years ago when I was in Greenville for my class’s 45th reunion. She was bright and cheerful even at 102! Miss Kaufman was truly one of a kind!
