Hazel and I were friends long over 40 years. A story of the “rhubarb Cobbler” is that of many memories we shared. I ran sound for her 30 years ago and she said she would pay me a certain amount and I said oh I don’t know about that price but a “rhubarb cobbler” will pay the debt. Since that time, she would bring me a cobbler to the festival every year. We have lost a true legend and good friend in the bluegrass industry. Herb Saffle

Dick and I knew Charlie and Hazel well and delighted in their company. We taught with Charlie at GCC and we were all part of the “old-timers.” I believe Mark studied some with Dick, and of course I know Suzie from the College. I too remember that Hazel always had a smile on her face and laughed easily. I had forgotten her love of bluegrass music, until her obituary reminded me. Charlie and Hazel were warm, welcoming people. They don’t make them like that anymore. I’m sorry we somehow missed Charlie’s passing at the time. Hazel and Charlie were special people and made others feel special, too. We’re so sorry to hear of your loss, extend our sympathy to you, pray for your strength, healing, and comforting.
