He spent his childhood on his parents' dairy farm (Shadow Lawn Dairy) with his seven siblings. James was a 1967 alumna of Reynolds High School and the Reynolds Wrestling Program.
He earned a Bachelor's of Arts degree in General Science in 1972 from Edinboro University where he continued his wrestling career and served as the team captain. He was also a proud member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. After college, he was a wrestling coach and a general science and agriculture teacher at the Wattsburg Area School District. In 1977, he continued his education at Penn State University earning a Degree in Agriculture/Horticulture. Later, he taught Horticulture at Frew Mill School in Lawrence County.
He married the former Karen Louise McEntire on June 18, 1977. In 1978 he decided to give up his teaching career to return home and manage the family farm that he was so proud of. He wanted to be sure the farm remained in the family. Mr. Woods had a passion for growing sweet corn and loved sharing it with neighbors, friends, and family. He took pride in passing the gift of "Farm Life" to his four children, who will be forever grateful. He was a selfless man who would give the shirt off of his back and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Karen and their four children: Jennifer Findlay, and her husband Chad of Cranberry, PA; Douglas Woods of Greenville, PA; Catherine Coast and her husband Dan of Sewickley, PA; Michael Woods and his fiance Katie Kesich of Slippery Rock, PA; nine grandchildren, Seth, Kendell, Cole, Clark, Hunter, Elise, Hayden, Christian, and Violet. Karen and whole family, We are sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. We remember you all when we were at Reynolds. Hugs and prayers from us.
I am so sorry to read about Jim’s passing. He was a great fraternity brother at Edinboro and we always had a lot of fun. I was grateful he bought his wedding ring at my father’s store in Tarentum and I had a great time at his wedding. I always enjoyed seeing him at the Sig Tau Summer reunions in July and I will miss his company.
I am so sorry to learn of Jim’s passing. My thoughts & prayers are with all of you at this sad time.

So sorry to hear this news. Jim “Woodsy” was a true legend at Edinboro as member of the the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity and the wrestling team. Great guy, fun and “Strong as a Bull” is a term I was raised with that definitely applies here. Good to see him at the 2018 summer reunion. We will definitely raise a toast in his honor and lasting memory at the reunion this summer. Prayers to his family during this time of sorrow, he will be missed by the many people that knew him.
Karen and the Woods family: My deepest sympathy to you. No words can help at this difficult time, but my prayer is that God will give you all peace and comfort May He give you strength in the upcoming weeks as this will be a difficult time also.
Dear Karen and family:
Please accept my sincere condolence on Jim’s passing. I was unaware of his being ill and hope that you and your family are at peace knowing that he is at peace. All the best,
