Mary Jean Schneider, of 9 Penn Ave., Greenville, passed away at 11:15 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017 at St. Paul’s Continuing Care Community, Greenville. She was 89.
Mary was born April 1, 1928 in Bolivar PA to Sherman and Agnes (Ewing) James, in the same bed and room her father had been born in at her grandparents’ home.
She was a graduate of the former Har-Brack High School, Natrona Heights, PA.
Mary married Richard J. Schneider Jan. 30, 1954. He preceded her in death Sept. 5, 2009. The couple formerly lived in Brackenridge, PA, Butler, Hermitage, Sharpsville and Mercer.
A lifelong homemaker, Mary enjoyed reading, tending to her flowers and sending cards to everyone and anyone whom she felt needed a friendly word.
Her greatest joy in her life were her children and grandchildren. She lived to spend time with family and enjoyed being a part of all their activities, especially Greenville High School athletics and musical productions and Greenville Area Community Theater.
Her family extended beyond those who shared her ancestry. Her children and grandchildren’s friends, as well as many others in the community, knew her affectionately as ‘Grammy.’
Mary is survived by her children, Vicki and John Cousley, Hempfield Twp., and Pamela and Thomas Lloyd, Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Adam and Heidi Cousley, Raleigh, NC; Kelsey and Bradley Wasser, Durham, NC; Melissa and Matthew Markow, Fredericksburg, VA, and Amy Beth and Jason Mayfield, Huntsville, AL, and a great-granddaughter, Abigail Amis, Huntsville.
Those who wish are asked to donate in Mary’s memory to a charity of their choice. Also, because of her great love of sending cards, please consider sending a card to someone in nursing care through Love for the Elderly, Box 24248, Cleveland, OH, 44124.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St., Greenville.

To the family of Mary Jean our deepest condolences. My mother Shirley (Mack) Sims was her friend in Brackenridge from when they first met at the age of 5. They had reconnected after a class reunion and been exchanging cards and letters for years. She will deeply miss her friend.
Vicki & family – So sorry to hear of your loss –
