Mary Janet Zuschlag, age 90, of Hayfield Rd. Hempfield Twp., died peacefully Thursday afternoon 3-16-17 in her residence.
Born on December 4, 1926 to Dr. L.V. And Charlotte (Young) Knapp, Janet was a lifelong resident of Greenville who graduated from Penn High School in 1944 and attended Grove City College.
She married Emery Zuschlag, her husband of nearly 70 years, on June 4, 1947.
Janet was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School and was actively involved in the Guild Circles, serving as both Chairman of Circles and President of the Guild.
Janet's first priority was her family and she served as a terrific homemaker and mother to her four children. As her children grew, Janet developed an interest in sports-particularly bowling and golfing. Janet was named “Bowler of the Year” by Red's Bowling Alley after averaging a high score of 205 for five games! For years, Janet practically lived on the golf courses in Greenville and Louisiana, where she and her husband spent winters with her sons and grandchildren. Janet achieved holes in one twice-at both the Greenville Country Club and Oakbourne Country Club in Louisiana.
In addition to her husband, Janet is survived by four children-Richard and his wife Elaine Zuschlag, Charlotte Zuschlag, Tom Zuschlag, and John and his wife Pam Zuschlag; five grandchildren-Beth LeBlanc, Blair Zuschag, Blaise Zuschlag, Justin Zuschlag, and Carr Zuschlag; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, Dr. Richard Knapp and two sisters, Shirley Knapp Miller, and Ruth Knapp Schlosser.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 323 Main St., Greenville, PA 16125 or to Southern Care Hospice, 16039 Conneaut Lake Rd., Ste 108 Meadville, PA 16335.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St., Greenville.

Janet and her husband, Emery, have been our neighbors for 7 years! We were good neighbors to each other! My 1st experience with a dentist was with Janet’s Dad! It was a good experience! Your family is in our thoughts and prayers! God Bless!
Many years ago think I was 15, I went with Janet, Emery and their family to Conneaut Lake for a week. I went to help with the kids and had a wonderful time and experience. I’m so sorry for your loss.
Tom, So sorry for your loss.
Emery and family,
So sorry for your loss. It was not too many years ago we admired her coming to the dome at Thiel and walking around the circle for exercise so she could get ready to golf. We remember hearing of the sibling rivalry between her and Dick and the ‘last of the Mohicans’. We are sure she will be missed. We extend sympathy to your family as well asl from Shirley. Jerry and Janet Harpst.
Emery and Family,
We are sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
Tom & Family,
