Norman E. Bartholomew, age 89, of Fredonia Rd., Hempfield Twp., left this earth and went home to be with the Lord peacefully with family at his side on Tuesday afternoon, January 17, 2017.

He was born at the family home on Methodist Rd. on October 4, 1927, the son of Milton R. and Helen (Wicks) Bartholomew.  He was a graduate of Penn High School and joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 18.  He served aboard the U.S.S. Byrd (famous explorer) on board.  After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Norman returned to the area and had employment in Greenville and in Eastern Ohio.  He would then move to West Palm Beach, FL, where he would work as a machinist for Pratt Witney Aircraft Co. and later for the West Palm Beach City Golf Course Yard Maintenance Department.

A few years after retirement, he moved back to Greenville.  Norman loved listening to music and playing games.  He was a member of American Legion Post #140 and the Harvest Baptist Church.

Norman is survived by his son, Larry E. Bartholomew of Greenville, three grandsons, Jeff Warner and his wife Viki, Daniel Warner and his wife Becky and Christopher Bartholomew, nine great-grandchildren, a niece, Pat Osborne of Jamestown, several great nieces and nephews, a cousin, Howard Allen and his wife Joy of Greenville, very close longtime friends, Ron and Mona Stoyer of Greenville and a special friend, Thelma Miller of Greenville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his second wife, Bea Anthony, sisters, Kathryn M. Campbell and Dorothy Panda and a nephew, M. Robert Campbell.
