Robert J. Shaffer, age 90, of Warren, OH, formerly of Kinsman, OH, passed away Friday morning, November 16, 2018 in his residence.
He was born in Raccine, WI on March 22, 1928 to Louis and Ethel (Bortmes) Shaffer. He was 1946 graduate of St. Michael High School and had attended Thiel College. Bob was employed for over thirty years as a Draftsman at the former Westinghouse Electric Corp. Transformer Plant in Sharon and after his retirement he worked as a courier for Bank One in Ohio.
As a devoted Catholic, he was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Greenville, and he taught CCD classes at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. In addition he coached 7th and 8th grade football for many years at Sts. Peter and Paul School and Warren JFK. Bob was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler and Pirates Fan and he also enjoyed hunting and farming.
On September 25, 1947 he married the love of his life, the former Esther B. Clark, she passed away on October 17, 2016. Together Bob and Esther raised fifteen children on a strong Catholic faith. Now they are reunited in Heaven after sixty-nine wonderful years of marriage.
Survivors include, eight daughters; Iris Tonty of Sharon, Judy Stefan and her husband Robert of Champion, OH, Patricia Martinec and her husband Carl of Cortland, OH, Mary Beth Millard of Farmdale, OH, Barbara Goncz and her fiance John Baciu of Warren, OH, Jeanne Thornton and her companion Jamie Hovance of Savannah, GA, Mary Catherine Nahod and her husband Bill of Farmdale, OH and Lisa Houser and her husband TJ of Savannah, GA; six sons; Mark Shaffer and his wife Shari of Kinsman,OH, James Shaffer and his wife Anita of Warren, OH, John Shaffer and his wife Katie of Truckee, CA, Paul Shaffer and his wife Kathy of Warren, OH, John Ballano and his wife Geri of Roscoe, IL and Samuel Ballano and his wife Michelle of Rockton, IL; forty-four grandchildren, fifty-six great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a daughter-in-law; Lisa Shaffer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son; Robert Shaffer, two grandchildren; Mary Lisa Shaffer and Trish Thornton, a great grandson; Travis Shaffer, two brothers; Bill Shaffer and Joe Shaffer and three sisters; Helen Yaremko, Catherine Junk and Mary Lou White.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael School Endowment Fund, 65 N. High St., Greenville.

Bob was a wonderful Catholic man and proud Saint Michael alumnus. We will miss his presence at the reunion. Our sympathy to all the family.
