Shirley E. (Hause) Harpst Knapp, age 92, formerly of Hayfield Rd., Hempfield Twp., Greenville, passed away Wednesday May 16, 2018.
She was born in her Grandparents home in Fairview Twp. on January 14, 1926 to Clayton Clement and Hazel Mae (Rose) Hause. On July 10, 1946 she married Homer Leslie Harpst, he passed away on September 22, 1985, she then married Dr. Richard L. Knapp on June 15, 1991, and they enjoyed seventeen years of marriage before his passing on May 18, 2008.
Shirley was a graduate of Fredonia-Delaware High School. She worked as a bank teller at Fredonia National Bank which changed names and ownership several times over the years. She was manager under Mellon Bank and retired after forty-two years of employment. Shirley was a member of Fredonia United Presbyterian Church. She was a great encourager and enjoyed hosting family gatherings and loved spending time with her family and extended family. Throughout her life, she has enjoyed traveling to the beach, going on cruises, playing cards and sending Hallmark cards and notes.
Survivors include two sons; Gerald Harpst and his wife Janet of Greenville and James Harpst and his wife Mary and of Lititz, PA, a sister; Wanda Cox of Eustes, FL, two brothers; David Hause Clark and his wife Lois of Ashtabula, OH and Stanley Hause and his wife Shirley of Fredonia, six grandchildren; Jennifer Catanzarito and her husband Mike, Julie Valentine and her husband Keith, Jason Harpst and his wife Kerby, Jonelle Cosgrove and her husband Ronald, Kristi Harpst and Kimberly Staub and her husband Dave and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two sisters; Rubie Mae McEwen and Velma Arlene Morley, six brothers; William James Hause, Quincy Quay Hause, Vincent Victor Hause, Harold Homer Hause, Raymond Clement Hause and Edward Earl Hause.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's, 339 E. Jamestown Rd., Greenville, PA 16125 or to Fredonia United Presbyterian Church, 24 Water St., Fredonia, PA 16124.
