Barbara Duplaisir

Barbara Duplaisir, age 75, of Greenville, PA and formerly a longtime resident of New Orleans, LA passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2022.

She was born in Greenville on December 3, 1946 to Thomas and Frances Mulligan. Barbara was a graduate of Greenville Senior High School, received her B.A. in Philosophy from Thiel College, Greenville, PA. She worked as an Elementary School Teacher at St. Michaels in Greenville, PA, St. Josephs in Ashtabula, OH., and the New Orleans school district for 25 years combined.

She is survived by her son, Nathanael Duplaisir and sister, Katie Richardson. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Frances Mulligan, brother, Dennis Mulligan, and husband, Robert Duplaisir.

Barbara was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Barbara had a lifelong passion for learning and teaching. Her adventurous and inquisitive spirit drove her to explore not only wisdom through traditional education but through travel and work as well. Over the course of her life she resided in Greenville, PA, New Orleans, LA, San Francisco, CA, Melbourne, Australia, and South Carolina. She also traveled to many other countries including Germany, Austria, the UK, and Ireland. While a lifelong elementary educator she was also one of the first women ever to work at the Lordstown GM assembly plant, a point of pride for her as she always felt equality between men, women, and all peoples was of paramount importance. She had a passion for reading, art, and nature. Never afraid to speak truth to power Barbara was involved over her life with many causes. She was a founding member of the Greenville Shade Tree Commission and strongly supported better treatment for animals.
