Naomi Caroline “Brown” Linhart, age 97, of East Lake Road, Jamestown, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at her residence, surrounded by family. Born in Jamestown on January 3, 1925, Carolyn, as she was known from her teen years, was the oldest of the six children of Walter and M. Ethel (McCutcheon) Brown. Raised on the family dairy farm and following graduation from Jamestown High School, she worked as a milk tester until she entered nursing school. She was a graduate of Buhl School of Nursing in Sharon where she received her degree as a registered nurse.
While in nursing school, a minor traffic accident brought her together with a persistent desk officer for the State Police who, after vigorous pursuit, asked her to wait for him until after World War II. When he returned from the war in the Pacific, Carolyn married Charles A. Linhart (“Cal”) on September 28, 1946; he passed away September 7, 1997. In addition to being a loving and caring mother and fully supportive of Cal in his diverse careers as police officer, county detective, bar owner, and book salesman, Carolyn continued as a private duty nurse in Butler, PA and then as a geriatric nurse in New Jersey and at St. Paul’s Senior Living Community, Greenville, PA from which she retired. In retirement she owned the Fabric Salvage Shop in Jamestown for many years, although she continued as a volunteer at St. Paul’s until she reached her 90’s. Always active in the community as one of the Brown girls, she was a member of Jamestown Presbyterian Church, Order of the Eastern Star #100 Century Chapter, and Jamestown VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #5454.
She is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Ann Linhart, Caren Beth Linhart, and Cherie Adair Hodgson, all of Jamestown; her son-in-law, Richard Hodgson of Jamestown; a sister, Doris Jean Leary and a brother, M. James Brown, both of Jamestown; two grandchildren—Richard Hodgson and Danya Naomi Sasak Gault; and eight great grandchildren—Airyana Hodgson; Ivy, Justine, Kayla, Joseph, and Alex Blanchard; and Alexis and Archer Gault.
