He was born in Superior, PA on September 18, 1939 to Merle and Anna (Ilko) Stepp. After graduating from West Deer High School in 1957, he started work on the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad as a Carman Helper in the freight car repair department. He loved his dogs, Max and Pepper, and watching his grandson Josh’s dogs play on their new farm. In the summer, Charlie would sit on the porch with his wife watching the birds and squirrels. He also enjoyed watching the Pirates, Yankees, and Steelers and attending the Pirates spring training camp. Charlie loved attending his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events and giving them advice. One of his greatest joys was calling them on a daily basis.

Charlie met his wife, Lorraine A. Washlaski, in 1956, and they married on May 2, 1959. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Susan Brennan and Terry Johnson, both of Greenville; his daughters-in-law, Sonya Stepp of Ripley, NY and Lisa Stepp of Knoxville, TN; 13 grandchildren: Heather (Paul) Marinelli, Abby (Gerald) Power, Courtney (Jason) Lopez, Jessica (Travis) Brown, Andrew Brennan, Christopher (Megan) Stepp, Jaimie (fiancé, Zach) Stepp, Amanda (fiancé Steve) Stepp, Zachary (Jessica) Johnson, Joshua (Chelsey) Johnson, Hannah (Daniel) Alvarez, Jameson Stepp, and Jackson Stepp; and 16 great-grandchildren: Anthony, Logan, Sophia, Silvia, James, Nathan, LJ, Camrin, Vivian, Aaleyah, Makayla, Kaleyna, Jaxson, Tristan, Mackenzie, and Forrest.
