Clarence (Dewey) Forsythe, 93, of Espyville, PA passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2021. Son of the late Rev. Walter S. and Corinne Forsythe. Born October 23, 1927 in Greenock, PA, he moved to Penn Hills and then to Espyville after retirement in 1990.

He was the loving husband of the late Shirley V. (Short) Forsythe. Beloved Father of Sharen Holsing of McKeesport, Richard (Zoe) Forsythe of Belle Vernon, Cindy (Cliff) Beirne of North Huntingdon and Ron Forsythe of Espyville, PA; grandchildren Neil (Jeannie) Holsing of Cincinnati, OH, Keith (Jaime) Holsing of Washington, PA, Christina (Brian) White of Reston, VA, Chad (Aimee) Forsythe of Greenville, PA, Dana (Evan)Flack of Williamsfield, OH, and Jacquelyn (Simon) Versis of Plainfield, IL; great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; and nieces.

Dewey was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; sisters and brother-in-laws, Jean (Delroy) Dick and Ethel Deane ( Lloyd) Emanuel; foster brother Donell Miller; daughter-in-law, Fran Forsythe and son-in-law, Jack Holsing.

Dewey left high school before graduation to enlist in the Navy. He served in the Seabees from 1945-46. Arriving home, he worked at Old Wordworking in McKeesport, Logan Norton Paint Store in McKeesport, Trafford Motor Coach as a driver, and spent 40 years with Duquesne Light Company in McKeesport and Penn Hills.

Former member of Greenock U.M.Church, Trinity Tower U.M. Church in Penn Hills, Espyville U.M. Church, and current member of Trinity U.M. Church in Conneaut Lake. Over the years, he served on many committees at the various churches.

Dewey had a passion for volunteering for his community. It started in 1944 during the tornado that struck his hometown of Greenock. He volunteered to help those who were impacted by the devastation and was asked by the National Guard to assist them in identifying local residents at their checkpoints. Dewey was a Boy Scout in his younger years and served on District Council. He was a Charter Member of the Greenock Volunteer Fire Company and was Fire Chief in the 1950’s. He was instrumental with John McPherson in getting the Greenock and Boston Fire Companies to work together. He was President of the Elizabeth Township Fire Association and President of Mon Yough Fire Defense Council. Dewey served 15 years as a volunteer for the American Red Cross and 10 years as an American Red Cross First-Aid Instructor. Dewey joined the Pymatuning Lake Association in 1992 and served as President for 20 years. He was a person who was instrumental in getting Ohio and Pennsylvania to cooperate with the habitat and stocking of Pymatuning Lake. Dewey was honored when the State Park dedicated the Espyville Launch Pavilion as “Dewey’s Pavilion”, for his many hours of service to the park. Dewey was past President of the Crawford County Tourist Association. Dewey is a 3rd degree Mason at the Adelphic Lodge #424 in Jamestown, PA.
