Concetta “Connie” Smargiasso, age 87, of Greenville, passed away in her home on April 29, 2022.
Connie was one of seven children born to Camillo and Lucia Smargiasso. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Joan (Tony) DiNocola, and brothers Joe, John and Tony. She is survived by brothers Nick and Paul, sister-in-laws Madge, Sara, Rose and Michelle as well as numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Connie was very family oriented and was adored by her many nieces and nephews. Her most recent grandniece bears her name, Concetta. She loved the outdoors and sports. She was very athletic and enjoyed attending all the sporting events in which her family was involved. She could run like the wind and had great hand-eye coordination. Connie was always a top pick in the family touch football and softball games. She loved her years of playing travel softball on the Cooper Roofing team. Connie grew up on the family farm and enjoyed putting up hay and other farm chores. Her work ethic was legend and even though diminutive in stature she could outwork most.
Professionally, she worked as a secretary at the Prichard and Keller Insurance Agencies before hiring on at Packard Electric in Warren, OH. She was a faithful, lifelong member of Christian Assembly Church in Greenville and when she could no longer attend church because of her declining health, she watched Jimmy Swaggart every Sunday with her caring friend, Margaret Cornman. Connie enjoyed listening to and singing along with her favorite inspirational hymns in both English and Italian. Connie lived life on her own terms and fortunately was able to be cared for throughout her illness in the home she lived in for 81 years. She received excellent care by a team of kind, devoted and competent ladies. Both her caregivers and her family admired Con's stubborn resolve to “do it my way” and her wry, sarcastic sense of humor. She lived simply, loved deeply and was a very special daughter, sister and aunt. She will be greatly missed.
