Denise Thomas

Denise L. Thomas, age 68, of Greenville, passed away Wednesday evening, January 10, 2024 in UPMC Shenango Valley. She was born in Sarver, PA on May 20, 1955 to George E. and Lena M. (Brodka) Mattern.

Denise was a 1973 graduate of Mercer High School. She was employed for thirty-two years at Werner Ladder Co. and then retired from Hurlbert Hardware, where she had worked for ten years. Denise loved dogs and had been active with the Mercer County Animal Response Team and was a longtime member of Therapy Dog International. She had taken her Therapy Dog to visit many hospitals and nursing homes throughout the years. Denise very much enjoyed camping and taking care of her home.

On February 12, 1977 she married Donald C. Thomas, he passed away on August 21, 2020. Denise is survived by her two sisters, Sandra Miller of Smethport, PA and Susan Leighty of Hermitage, two nieces, a great-nephew and a great-niece. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a nephew.

Per Denise’s wishes, cremation was chosen and no services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the choice of the donor or to Strayhaven Animal Shelter, 94 Donation Rd., Greenville, PA 16125.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St., Greenville.
