Edward “Trace” Pickens, Jr., age 74, of Hamilton Ave., Greenville, passed away peacefully at 3:00 PM Monday, January 15, 2024, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Greenville on August 12, 1949 to Edward T., and Myrtle R. (Uber) Pickens.
Trace was a 1967 graduate of Greenville High School. Soon after graduation he began his career with Penn Power Co. He later served in the U.S. Navy, (Seabees) from 1968-1970 during the Vietnam War. After his discharge from the service, he returned to his job with Penn Power. He later moved to Phoenix where he worked for Salt River Project, (electric utility) retiring after 25 years.
He truly loved and was very devoted to his wife and son as well as his siblings. He was a true friend to many. In fact, when he moved back to Greenville from Phoenix, he made it a point to organize and meet every month with many of his childhood/high school friends. Trace was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Greenville. In addition, he was a lifetime member of Greenville VFW Post #3374, and was also a member of B.P.O.E. #145 and Greenville Family Moose #276. Trace truly loved the game of baseball and played/coached from the time he was 5 until about 35 years old. He was an avid sports fan and especially passionate for the Cleveland Indians/Guardians, Cleveland Browns, and Cleveland Cavaliers.
On October 12, 1974 he married the former Joanie Daniello, she survives at home. He is also survived by his son who was his pride and joy, Edward “Eddy” T. Pickens, III of Greenville, his sisters, Nancy Puggie of Phoenix, Carole (Tom) Duda of Greenville, Edwina (Jerry) Johnson of Clarks Mills, his brother, Jack (Colleen) Pickens of Pulaski and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Sandy Jacks, and brother-in-laws, Junior Jacks, Loren Puggie, Michael Daniello, Richard Royal and Robert Budas. The family wishes to express their gratitude for all those involved in Trace’s care these last few months. In particular to Dr. Hassan and staff at Hillman’s Cancer Center. Also “special” thanks to Family Hospice (UPMC), Dr. Troy Jones and dr. Mark Smith and their staff.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veteran, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
