military honors at the conclusion of visitation. Immediately

VFW Pavillion for a celebration of Ed's life.

Edward M. Slavic, age 74, of Greenville, passed away Monday morning, May 1, 2023 in his residence.

He was born in Greenville on October 3, 1948 to William E. and Nancy (Durbin) Slavic. Ed was a 1967 graduate of Greenville High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967-1971 during Vietnam and also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and was a Honorary Chief Petty Officer. Ed began his working career as a clerk in the car shop at the Bessemer & Lake Erie R.R. from 1971-1985, then worked as the Manager of the Officer’s Club at the Youngstown Air Force Base for fifteen years and completed five years as a Correction Officer at SCI Albian. In addition, he worked part time as a Security Guard for Reinhart Security and at Mowris Small Engine Repair.

Ed was a lifetime member of Greenville VFW Post #3374 where he was a past commander and currently served on the honor guard and as the club’s chaplain. He was also a lifetime member of B.P.O.E. #145 and was a member of the Greenville Italian Home Club and the Cortland (OH) Loyal Order of Moose Lodge. Ed served as a Mentor for the Mercer County Veterans Court and his other interests included, rooting for the Washington Redskins, watching NASCAR, fishing, spending time in his man cave, dancing and he was known as Fast Eddy or Club Ed.

On November 5, 1976 he married the former Sandra S. Bortz, she survives. Also surviving are two daughters; Joanna L. Kepling and her companion Scott Morford of W. Middlesex, PA and Melinda M. Peabody of Greenville, three grandchildren; Heather Kepling, Courtney Slavic and Damon Peabody, two great-grandchildren; Levi Kepling and Adrianna Worley and two granddogs; Peetey and Petals. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister; Cathy Macmurray.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Greenville VFW, 54 Conneaut Lake Rd., Greenville, PA 16125 or to Mercer County Veterans Court, 5 Courthouse, Mercer, PA 16137.
