Evelyn Wilson, of Greenville, passed away on November 27, 2021 in the Villas at St. Paul Homes. She was born an only child to Grace and James Gordon Brown in Detroit, Michigan on August 19, 1927.
Evelyn spent her early childhood in Detroit. She moved to Charleston, West Virginia with her mother and stepfather, Charles Harding, during her teenage years, where she completed high school. After public schooling, Evelyn graduated from Morris Harvey College (University of Charleston) magnacum laude with a degree in sociology. She married Lawrence Wilson, Jr. in 1949. They lived in Indiana, West Virginia and eventually Pittsburgh where they raised three daughters. Larry’s career took them to Houston, Texas and they subsequently retired to Greenville in 1985.
Evelyn was a quiet woman of strong fortitude and her faith in Christ as her Savior was her central focus. She was an active church member in the various places they lived, including First Baptist Church and First Presbyterian Church in Greenville. Evelyn spent her life caring for family, and her gentle, calm demeanor formed the underpinning of the family dynamics.
Evelyn is survived by three daughters: Sharon Nystrom (Joel); Laura Loggi (Lou); Lynne Wilson; five grandchildren: Steve Nystrom; Sarah Nystrom; Christine Nystrom; Elaine Loggi; (Nate Mochizuki); Brian Loggi; two great-granddaughters and three half-sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, husband and infant son. Her family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff at the Villas for their gracious and gentle care of Evelyn during a most difficult time of her life. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Homes.
Due to COVID-19 health and safety concerns, a private family Funeral Service will be held Thursday, December 2, 2021 in Westminster Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, Greenville, with Rev. Daid A. Dobi, Pastor of the church, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Burial with committal prayers will be in Shenango Valley Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 366-368 S. Main St. Greenville.
