Florence H. Garrett, age 92, of Davidson Ave., Greenville passed away peacefully Thursday morning, April 24, 2025, in her residence.
She was born in Albion on October 1, 1932 to Harry and Florence (Jessop) Peden. Florence was a 1950 graduate of St. Michael High School. She retired from the Mercer County Agency on Aging in 2014 following 18 years of employment as a Secretary and previously had been employed at The Hello Shop, Ames, and Murphy’s Department Store.
Florence was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Greenville where she had served as Eucharistic Minister and previously assisted with funeral dinners. She volunteered at The Good Shepherd Center and also volunteered for more than 50 years in the Hospitality Shop at UPMC Horizon Greenville. Florence enjoyed crossword puzzles, cross stitch, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren.
On September 19, 1953, Florence married Grover Garrett, Jr; he passed away November 15, 1995.
She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Murrow of Bonita Springs, FL and Sally Johnston of Greenville; a sister, Delores (Fred) Holzapfel of Greenville; four grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Florence was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters: Margaret Zuschlag, Hilda Pinney, Alice Turner, and Nellie Kusich; four brothers: Harry, Ray, Alfred “Skip,” and Charles “Bill” Peden; two sons-in-law, George Johnston and Justin Santiago; and a granddaughter, Georgia Johnston.
Services:
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, 4/29/25, in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Greenville with Fr. Brandon Kleckner, Pastor of the Church, as Celebrant. Family and Friends will be received from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Tuesday, 4/29/25, in Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St. Greenville. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 85 N. High St. Greenville, PA 16125 or The Good Shepherd Center, 10 N. Water St. Greenville, PA 16125.
