Dr. Frank M. Stratiff, age 86, of First Ave., Greenville, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023 in St. Paul’s Senior Living Community. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on June 17, 1937 to Frank A. and Antonetta (Perrotte) Stratiff.
Dr. Stratiff was a 1955 graduate of Central Catholic High School, attended St. Francis Prep School and was a 1961 graduate of Thiel College, where he was a team captain and outstanding member of the Thiel Football Team. For his many accomplishments on the field, Dr. Stratiff was inducted into the Thiel College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999. He went on to receive his Masters Degree in English from Penn State University and his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Stratiff was employed as an English Teacher and Assistant Football Coach at Greenville High School from 1961-1965, from 1967-1973 as an English Teacher and Head Football Coach at Meadville High School and from 1973-1995 he worked as an English Teacher and Assistant Football Coach at Hickory High School. In addition, he was an Adjunct Professor and served as the Head of the Education Department at Thiel College. Dr. Stratiff also worked for many years at The Record Argus Newspaper, where he covered W. Salem Twp. and wrote two columns, “Timeless Tributes” and “Frankly Speaking”. He was a member of Hillside Presbyterian Church, Greenville, where he had served as an Elder. Dr. Stratiff was a member of Greenville Lions Club, served on the Board of Directors of Keystone Charter School and also served on the Greenville Community Court. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed reading.
On September 8, 1962 he married the former Janet L. Kightlinger, she survives. Also surviving are his three daughters, Michele A. Miranda and her husband Steven of Greenville, Laurie A. Foulk and her husband Roger of Canal Fulton, OH and Pamela L. Stratiff-Stewart, a sister, Annabelle Cook of Pittsburgh and four grandchildren, Kendrik Jones, Aidan Miranda, Marina Foulk and Lily Stewart. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Betty Lou Gasiorowski and a brother, Dominic Stratiff.
