George W. Alexander, 74, went to be with our Lord Tuesday, January 25. He was born in Greenville, PA on July 23, 1947 and graduated from Commodore Perry High School in 1966. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy Seabees where he served two tours during the Vietnam War. George was wounded in combat when his military vehicle struck an IED causing injuries to his head and upper body. George was honored for his service as the 2014 ATI Hometown Hero, and awarded the Purple Heart by Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Jonathan Greenert in the end zone of Heinz Field during Steelers Veterans Night.

After military service, he returned home and married his loving wife of 42 years, Charlene. George was employed at Greenville Regional Hospital as Chief of Security for 28 years and as a DER Park Ranger at Pymatuning State Park. He served on the Borough of Greenville as a council man for 4 years.

In his spare time George enjoyed deer hunting, home improvement projects, road-trips to the mountains. watching nature programs, and Clint Eastwood movies. He also enjoyed Italian home cooked meals especially his mother Helen’s deep dish apple and rhubarb pies. His greatest joys were being with his wife, his children and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charlene (Lovetri) Alexander. His mother Helen (Whyte) Alexander, Brothers Jim and Ronnie Alexander. His sister Marie (Turner) Alexander.

George is survived by his son, Brian Alexander, wife Lorraine and two grandsons Connor and Matthew. His daughter, Andrea (Alexander) Roberts and granddaughter, Miya Roberts. Sisters Kathy (Alexander) Clark and Husband Gary and Robbie (Alexander) Spence. Brother Robert “Bobby” Alexander and several nieces and nephews.

A Private Memorial Service will be held Monday, January 31, 2022 in Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., with Deacon Frank Luciani of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, officiating. Greenville VFW Honor Guard will render military honors at the conclusion of the service. Inurnment will be in St. Michael Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital For Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
