George W. Groce

George W. Groce, age 88, of Martinsburg, PA, formerly of Greenville, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

He was born on April 1,1936 in Greenville to the late Ray A. Groce, Sr. and Edna M. (Clark) Groce. George was a 1954 graduate of Penn High School. He worked for 10 years as a coil winder for Westinghouse Electric Corp, followed by 18 years of employment in driver sales for Schwebel Baking Co. in the Pittsburgh area, retiring in 1998.

He was a past member of Hillside Presbyterian Church, Greenville where he also was a member of the Sunshine Class. In his spare time, George enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He married the former Loretta M. Owens on October 6, 1956; she preceded him in death on January 4, 2022.

George is survived by three daughters: Georgie A. (Jeff) Fetterolf of Jasper, GA, Margo A. (Larry) Roberts of Meadville, and Emilee S. (John) Elder of Duncansville, PA; a son, William D. (Noreen) Groce of Tampa, FL; three sisters, Elizabeth (Duane) Lewis of Adamsville, Catherine Snyder of Greenville, and Nancy Knapp of Greenville; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Raymond A. Groce, Jr., a sister Ruth McCurdy, a grandson, Seth A. Groce, a granddaughter, Charla A. Groce, and an infant granddaughter, Jane Hovis Groce.

Services:

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024 at 2:00 PM in Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366 – 368 S. Main St., Greenville with Rev. Brenda Martin, Pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home from 1:00 PM until time of service. Inurnment will be in Delaware Twp. Cemetery.
