Gerald B. “Jerry” Hodge
Gerald Britton Hodge, Powhatan, VA and Venice, FL, formerly of Greenville, PA passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born September 29, 1934 in Greenville, PA to Wesley Scott and Ruth Britton Hodge. On June 29, 1957 he married Patricia Irwin Agnew, who died February 25, 1998. He then married Judith Ann Barron on October 10, 1999.
He was a graduate of Penn High School and Pennsylvania State University and served honorably in the United States Army.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greenville and served as a Deacon, Elder and Treasurer. He previously was a member of First United Methodist Church of Greenville where he sang in the choir for 50 years, was Lay Leader, Conference Delegate and a Delegate to the World Methodist Conference. He was Chairman of the Inter-religious Commission of the Conference and Delegate to the PA Council of Churches.
He retired as President of Hodge Foundry, Inc. after 43 years of service. He was a director of the Ductile Iron Society and the Cast Iron Research Institute, as well as, the Ductile Iron member of the U.S. Dept.of Energy Cast Metals Committee.
His local activities included: President of the Greenville Symphony, Founder of Canal Museum, President of Kiwanis Club, United Way Director, Chairman of Mercer County Div. of Pennsylvania Economy League, Director of Western PA Div. Pennsylvania Board of Governors, Member of the Mercer County Industrial Development Authority Penn Northwest, Chairman UPMC Horizon Hospital Board, member of the Penn State Shenango Board and founding member of the Mercer County Labor-Management Committee.
He enjoyed singing and sang in many choirs and groups including barbershop quartets in high school and college. In college, his quartet sang for President and Mrs. Eisenhower.
He traveled to over 55 countries and all seven continents.
In addition to his wife, Judith of Powhatan, VA and Venice, FL, he is survived by his children, Cherie Hodge Moshier and her husband Gary of Pittsburgh, David Agnew Hodge and his wife Wendy of Winston-Salem, NC and Susan Hodge Jackson (the late Gary) of Pittsburgh. He is also survived by three step-children: Angelyn May and her husband Sam of Fayetteville, NC, Julie Yevchak and her husband Chris of York, SC and Jessica Crompton and her husband Matt of Powhatan, VA. He is survived by 6 grandchildren and 7 step-grandchildren. He is also survived by three siblings: Scott Hodge(Sherry)of Greenville, Barbara Rumpf(Richard), of Venice, FL, and Jean Macon(Fred) of Asheville, NC.
