Gilbert M. Thompson

Gilbert M. Thompson, age 61, of S. Mercer St., Greenville passed away unexpectedly Friday afternoon, October 11, 2024, in his residence.

He was born on February 22, 1963 in Greenville to John W., Sr. and Louise A. (Moore) Thompson. Gilbert was a 1982 graduate of Greenville High School and served in the U. S. Navy from 1982-1986, completing a tour of duty in Beirut, Lebanon in 1984. Gilbert then served in the United States Marine Corps from 1988-2004, completing two tours of duty in the Persian Gulf and Iraq. Following his military retirement, Gilbert worked in armed security for various companies, retiring in February of 2024.

Gilbert was a member of F. O. P. Lakeland Lodge #88 and American Legion Post #140 and was an avid fan of the former Washington Redskins.

Gilbert is survived by two daughters: Patricia Thompson of Warren, OH and Alicia Thompson of Hermitage; a sister, Darlene Pearce of Oklahoma; a brother, John (Tammi) Thompson Jr of Greenville; and four grandchildren: Braxton, Kaylee, Reanna, and Abbigayle.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dawn Blair.

Services: 

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, 10/18/24, in Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 366-368 S. Main St. Greenville with Jim Marsteller of The American Legion Post #140 officiating. Military honors rendered by American Legion Honor Guard Post #140 will follow services in the chapel of Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home on Thursday, 10/17/24, from 5-7 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post #140, 278 Main St. Greenville, PA 16125 or F. O.
