Henry H. Heil of Greenville, 86, completed his earthly journey on Wednesday morning, January 31, 2024 and began his passage to eternal life which he was promised in baptism. During his illness while residing at St. Paul homes, his family and friends spent many days comforting him.

Henry was born in Kenmore, NY to the Reverend William T. and Elizabeth Heil Sr. Most of his youth was spent in Little Neck, Queens, NY, where he was a graduate of Bayside High School. He earned a BA in history from Wagner College, Staten Island, New York. His wife Ruth Bergemann and he met as teenagers. They were married for 66 years. The joy of his life was his family- Ruth, son Henry Jr. and chosen daughter, Pam. His leisure time was spent reading, especially mysteries, and hosting gatherings in their home.

Henry and Ruth enjoyed both symphony and opera performances. Tucson, AZ was a place where they spent time with friends during winters. His career centered around college administration, first as a Development Officer at Wagner College. He then served as Assistant to the President and finally as Dean of Admissions. Henry’s final position was as Vice President of Administrative Services at Thiel College from 1979 to 1994. He was a member of the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Greenville Area Economic Corporation, where he served as President and Chair twice, respectively. He served as Secretary for the Greenville-Reynolds Industrial Development. He chaired the National Fuel Gas Consumer Board for several years. He was a participating member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Greenville. He sang tenor in the choir, taught adult Sunday School, and was a member of the Property and Stewardship Committees.

Besides his wife, Ruth, he is survived by his son, Henry Jr., a sister-in-law, Judy Heil, and eleven nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Pam, brother William T., sister Elizabeth Heil Frutiger, her husband Bill, and nephew Jim. Henry’s in-laws Bob and Amelia Bergemann, three brothers and sister-in-laws, Bob (Barbara), Ted (Marie) and Charlie (Arline); a nephew Paul also preceded him in death.
