James E. "Jim" Beatty

James E. “Jim” Beatty, age 84, of Greenville passed away Thursday, October 24, 2024, with his wife and children by his bedside. He was born in Greenville, PA on March 19, 1940 to George Edward and Violet Virginia (James) Beatty. His early years were spent in Meadville, PA where he attended Neeson Hill and Second District Schools.

At 15 years of age, he moved to Greenville, graduating from Penn High School in 1958. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1963 and honorably discharged in 1965. He then was a loyal employee of the R. D. Werner Co. for 43 years until his retirement as a supervisor in 2004. 

In 1968, Jim married his high school sweetheart Mary Lynn Thiess of Meadville. She survives along with their children Carrie (Richard) Feldmiller, Joshua (Pat) Beatty, Laura (Neil) Bullock, and his daughter by his first marriage, Michelle Beatty (Doug) Bucklin. He also is survived by grandchildren Ethan Feldmiller (Amanda Natale), Ella Feldmiller, Audrey Bullock, Bridget Bullock, Bradley (Kelly) Bucklin, Angie (Scott) Webster, sister-in-law Joan Beatty, and nephew Bill (Lynn) Beatty. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren.

Jim loved his family. He was proud of his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments and continued being their number one fan and supporter. After his retirement, Jim stayed busy in the community where he drove a school van for Frye Bus Co., volunteered at UPMC Horizon Hospital, and was an active member of the Greenville Lions Club, serving as King Lion, chairman for several years of the Pancake Day, and was instrumental in the construction of the Lions Club Pavilion at the Sports Complex. He was awarded The Melvin Jones Fellowship award, the highest honor given to a Lions Club member. Jim enjoyed many trips to Montana hunting and to Canada fishing.

His parents, sister, and brother predeceased him along with his beloved mother-in-law, Wiltha Thiess Chase. 

Services:

Per Jim’s wishes, cremation was chosen, and there will be no services. Inurnment will be in Shenango Valley Cemetery, Greenville.
