J. James Ruffing, age 90, of Bentley Ave., Hempfield Twp. Greenville, passed away Wednesday evening, June 28, 2023 in his residence.
He was born in Greenville on January 8, 1933 to Clarence J. and Frances M. (Brown) Ruffing. Jim was a 1951 graduate of St. Michael’s High School and he served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955, stationed in Germany. On May 29, 1955 he married the former Elizabeth M. Loffler, she passed away on August 20, 2021. He was employed for thirty-five years as a Car Distributor at the Bessemer & Lake Erie Rail Road, retiring in 1985. Jim was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Greenville and was also a member of American Legion Post #140 and VFW Post #3374. He enjoyed traveling with his late wife on Anderson Bus trips, eating at Wendy’s Restaurant and weekend outings to the mall. Other interests of Jim’s included, maintaining his vehicle, working outside in his yard and reading.
He is survived by his six cousins; Margaret McLaughlin, Helen Kirkner, Don Kirkner, Charles Kirkner, and William Ruffing, all of Greenville, and Richard Kirkner of Kittanning and a niece, Roswitha Eiber of Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
