Jay Holmes Huston, Sr., age 96, of Leech Rd., Hempfield Twp., Greenville, passed away Wednesday evening, December 21, 2022 in Va Medical Center, Butler.
He was born in Ligonier, PA on April 12, 1926 a son of Roy and Carrie (Hamill) Huston. He was a 1944 graduate of Ligonier High School and received a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. Jay served his country in the United States Army during WWII, where he received a sharp shooter medal, purple heart, and bronze star.
On August 4, 1950 Jay married the former Betty Jean Casteel, she passed away May 31, 1991. Jay was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Greenville and served as a volunteer at St. Paul's Senior Living Community and Greenville Junior Achievement. He was previously employed at McEsson Labs and Pharmaceutical Company, was the owner of Greenville Drug Company for 10 years, and was an executive for a pharmaceutical company. Jay also worked with the census poll for the US Post Office, was a key note guest speaker for International Harvester Sales and John Deere. He enjoyed working outside, landscaping, hunting and spending time in nature. Jay truly took pride in helping others in the community and spending time at his cottage and boating on Lake Pymatuning.
He is survived by his children; Jay H. Huston, Jr. of Uniontown, PA, Penny Huston of Durham-Chapel Hill, NC and Jodi Huston of Greenville, three granddaughters; Candace Huston, Hallie Huston and Kelly Huston-Filburn and a sister-in-law; Geneva Huston of Ligoneer, PA. He was preceded in death by parents, wife and six siblings.
