Joan F. Evans

Joan F. Evans of Greenville passed away April 21, 2025. She was 96.

Mrs. Evans was born March 13, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio to John and Helen (Kelly) McGuigan. She graduated from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia and received her master’s degree from the School of Library Science of the University of Pittsburgh.

Mrs. Evans was the Director of the Greenville Area Public Library from July 1973 through December 1990.

She was a member and past president of the Greenville Business and Professional Women’s Club, a past president of the Greenville Area United Way, and a member of the College Club of Sharon. She was a member of St. Michael’s Church in Greenville.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband John and spending their winters in Stuart, Florida. John and she were married June 13, 1953 in Philadelphia. John passed away May 8, 2011.

Surviving are three daughters, Patricia (Thomas)Hill of Cary NC, Denise (David) Bell of Vienna, VA and Kathleen (David) Bresnan of Cortland, OH, a son John V. Evans of Stephens City, VA and six grandchildren, Kevin (Ivy) Hill, Brian Hill, Michael (Katelyn) Bell, Elizabeth (Maurice) Hubbard, Kelly (Geoff) Kennard and Rachael Bresnan and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband John and her parents.

Services:

A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Greenville with Fr. Brandon Kleckner, Pastor of the Church, as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The Greenville Area Public Library Endowment Fund, 330 Main Street, Greenville, PA 16125 or St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 85 N. High Street, Greenville, PA 16125.
