JoAn Marie Wentling, age 85, of Mercer Rd., Hempfield Twp., Greenville passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease on Saturday, November 30th, 2024.
She was born to Howard A. and Martha M. (Dawes) Enterline in Greenville, Pennsylvania. After graduating Penn High in Greenville as a member of the Class of 1957, she went on to further her education attaining a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Colorado at Boulder, her nursing degree from St. Luke’s in Cleveland, Ohio, and her Master’s degree from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. She also qualified as a Nurse Practitioner.
She started her nursing career in Fayette County in the Uniontown area as a home health nurse, and eventually held positions in nursing at Greenville Hospital, and finished her career as the Greenville High School nurse after 25 years of service. Her love of nursing also called her to start a parish nursing program at Zion’s Reformed Church and also assisted with health clinics at The Good Shepherd Center, both in Greenville.
Her hobbies were many, from gardening, were she earned status as a master gardener, traveling, which she was able to visit forty nine states and many foreign countries, including England, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Spain in Europe, and also Peru, Brazil, Argentina, and Chile in South America, and also Israel, Egypt, China, and finally, Australia and New Zealand. Singing, which she did at many locations, including the Messiah, Shenango Valley Chorale, St. Paul’s Homes, and in the choir at her home church at Zion’s. Also, she participated in the Greenville Area Community Theatre in her younger years.
She was a very family-oriented person. On September 8, 1962, she married Dallas C. Wentling and they had three sons together, Kyle C. (Amanda), Joel J. (Michelle), and Parke H. (Jennifer), all of Greenville. Along with her husband Dallas, she is survived by a brother, John H. Enterline (Jodie) of Atlantic, Pennsylvania, grandchildren, Bryer C. (Morgan), Trap P., Jamin A. (Emily), Mesa M., Ada A., and Iris J. Wentling. Also, grandchildren Justin Lewis (Kylee), great grandchildren Lincoln, Lexi, and Brody Lewis, and step grandchildren Dalton, Peyton, and Gavin Boggs, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and middle son Joel.
Services:
A Funeral Service for JoAn will be held at 11 AM on Monday, 12/9/24, in Zion’s Reformed Church, UCC, 260 Main St., Greenville with Rev. Steven Craft, Pastor of the Church, officiating. Family and Friends will be received from 4-7 PM on Sunday, 12/8/24, in LOUTZENHISER-JORDAN FUNERAL HOME and CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 366-368 S. Main St., Greenville. Burial will be in Shenango Valley Cemetery.
Monetary donations can be made in JoAn’s name to Zion’s Reformed Church, UCC, 260 Main Street, Greenville, PA 16125.
