Joanne C. Shannon, age 87, of Twinsburg, OH and formerly of Greenville, passed away Monday evening, October 28, 2024. She was born in Greenville on Feb 22, 1937, the daughter of John and Virginia (Barnes) Piai.
Joanne was a graduate of Penn High School in 1955 and went on to work in the offices of the Chicago Bridge & Iron until her marriage to her high school sweetheart (Bill Shannon) on Feb 9, 1957. They would share 63 years together until his death on Feb 28, 2020.
They began their married life in Key West, FL where her husband finished his tour of duty in the U.S. Navy and Joanne worked on the Naval Base in the Purchasing Dept.
They returned to Greenville and raised two children (LeAnne & Kevin). During this time, Joanne worked in the offices of the Niagara Therapy Adamsville, R.D. Werner Co., and retired after 20 years with Agway, Inc.
In 1997, she and her husband moved to Twinsburg, OH and built onto their daughter & son-in-law’s home. They enjoyed many years watching their grandsons grow and attending all of their baseball and soccer games.
She had been a member of Zion’s Reformed United Church of Christ since childhood and after moving to Twinsburg, joined the Solon Community Church (UCC) where she was an elder, served on the Board of Benevolence, and sang in the choir.
Joanne enjoyed baking, reading, and writing letters and sending cards to relatives and friends.
She is survived by her daughter LeAnne (Shannon) Stuver and son Kevin Shannon. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (Bill), and her brother (John Piai).
Services:
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM Thursday, 10/31/24, in Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St. Greenville, with Pastor Ben Graves of Pioneer Memorial Presbyterian Church officiating. Inurnment will be in the Columbarium of Zion’s Reformed United Church of Christ, Greenville. Memorial Tributes can be made to Zion’s Reformed United Church of Christ, 260 Main St. Greenville, PA 16125, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
