John Cianci, business owner and lifelong resident of Greenville, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in his home on July 24, 2023. John was born on May 21, 1929 in Greenville, Pennsylvania. John was the son of Gaetano and Mary (Giangiordano) Cianci.

John graduated from Penn High School in 1947. John married Bette Rice, a school nurse, in 1949. They had three children: William Fry, David Cianci, and Lawrence Cianci. Entrepreneurship was a strong trait between John and his family, as the family started numerous businesses in the Greenville community. John was the business owner and proprietor of Cianci’s Corner Dairy for 57 years. What began as a simple soda fountain, blossomed into a neighborhood marketplace that became a staple of the community. Patrons remember the penny candy, free pretzels, and John’s friendly smile that would always greet them there. He was also the owner of Happy Home Rentals, which offered affordable housing to residents throughout Mercer County for over 50 years.

John was a devout, lifelong member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Greenville. John enjoyed spending time with his family, watching a variety of sports, and square dancing. John would often travel to square dancing events, and enjoyed performing and entertaining the audience.

In addition to his parents, wife, and three sons, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Nicholas, Camillo, and Anthony Cianci; and a grandson, Vincent Cianci. He is survived by his sister, Rose Gerdy; a daughter-in-law, Rita Fry; a great-grandson, Maxwell Cianci; and many nieces and nephews.

John will be remembered for his kindness, warm smile, friendly nature, generosity, and lifelong love of the Greenville community.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Northern Mercer County Community Foundation, 7 W. State St., Sharon, PA 16146.
