John L. Ghindea, age 89, of Vernon Rd., W. Salem Twp., Greenville passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday afternoon, December 12, 2024.
He was born on August 20, 1935 in Farrell, PA to James L. and Valeria (Sensesak) Ghindea. John was a 1953 graduate of Sharon High School and had attended Thiel College. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1955-1957 aboard the Destroyer 883. From 1970 until his retirement in 1999, he was employed as an electrician at General Motors, Lordstown, OH where he was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the United Auto Workers. After retiring, John briefly worked as an associate professor of electrical trades at Kent State University, Warren, OH campus.
He attended Eagle’s Nest Church at Old Salem, Greenville and had previously attended Crossroads Christian Fellowship and Lifeway Church of the Nazarene. John possessed great mechanical abilities and enjoyed working on and showing antique cars, riding motorcycles, and residing part-time in Isle of Palms, SC for many years. One of his greatest pleasures was raising his three children.
On July 27, 1991, John married Ruth E. Hayes; she survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Lori L. Ghindea-Rector of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Sheri D. (Rich) Ghindea-Perry of Greenville; a son, Jeffery W. (Linda) Ghindea, of Port Washington, OH; a sister, Elaine Allen of Hermitage; a stepdaughter, Donna (Rick) Greene of Peyton, CO; two stepsons: John (Tammy) Wilkoski, of Vista, CA and Rodger Wilkoski of Champion, OH; five grandchildren: Carly (Brett) Thomas, Hannah (Paul) Kwiatkowski, Rachel Ghindea, Kayla (Jake Miller) Samples, and John (Emily) Samples; 12 step-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, Sophia Bennett; and several step-great-grandchildren.
John is preceded in death by his parents; a stepson, David Wilkoski; and a sister, Valeria McKenna.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, 12/18/24, in Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St. Greenville with Pastor Vince Bellanca of Eagle’s Nest at Old Salem officiating. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home on 12/18/24 from 1 PM until time of service. Burial with Committal Prayers and Military Honors rendered by Greenville American Legion Post #140 Honor Guard will be in Shenango Valley Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3550 S. Clark Street, Suite 203 Arlington, VA 22202.
