John Holiga Jr., age 96, formerly of Transfer, passed away Thursday morning, February 8, 2024 in The Lakes at Jefferson, Mercer. He was born in Farrell on March 4, 1927 a son of John and Helen (Pohlod) Holiga.
John was a 1945 graduate of New Wilmington High School and served his country in the United States Navy as Seaman 1st class during World War II. On February 3, 1951 John married the former Dorothy Helen Bayuk, she survives. He was employed at Westinghouse Electric Transformer Division for 32 ½ years until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of Greenville Family Moose Lodge # 276, Shenango Valley Moose Legion # 88, Reynolds Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 7599, Sharpsville American Legion Post # 0162, Greenville Italian Club, and Penn-Ohio Polka Pals Booster Club. John enjoyed gardening, Winston Cup Auto Racing, polka dancing, and traveling.
In addition to his wife of 73 years, he is survived by four sons, Edward Holiga of Farrell, Raymond Holiga and his wife Sue of Greenville, John T. Holiga and his wife Barbie of Jamestown, Mark Holiga and his wife Marianne of Youngstown; two daughters, Lois Bock and her husband Larry of Concord Twp., OH and Lynne Holiga of Transfer; a sister, Helen Yuchison of Canfield, OH; 14 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Krystal Gregg and a grandson, Danny Holiga.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 85 N. High St., Greenville, PA 16125. Arrangements have been entrusted to Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St., Greenville.
