John (Jack) J. Kalchthaler, age 85, of Greenville, Pa passed away, Friday, February 28, 2025 at his residence. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa, on August 28, 1939, to John and Florence Kalchthaler. He was a 1957 graduate of Butler High School. Jack served in the Army reserves for many years. He was employed as a produce manager for several years. In 1972 he bought a convenience store, that became known in town as EAST SIDE DAIRY. The store remained open until 1999.
Jack was a member of St. Michael, Roman Catholic Church, Greenville, Pa, where he participated as Eucharistic Minister, Pastoral Council, Religious Education Teacher, RCIA, Cursillo GR Men’s group, and over 50 years was a part of a prayer group, and he was a Secular Fransican, he was a 3rd degree member of The Knights of Columbus Council 1446.
Jack enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, archery, photography, Poetry, and attending all his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities.
In November 1968, he married the former Donna Greco, she survives. Jack is also survived by his 5 children. Dr. Matthew Landfried (Kerry), Lee Ann Micsky (Mark), Kathy Stewart (Brick), Paul Kalchthaler (Dotty), and David Landfried (Cathy).
He is also survived by one brother, David Kalchthaler, and seven sisters, Joan Johnson, Mary Ann Redfoot, Virginia Smith, Linda Lawry, Karen Mischick, Janet Brubaker, and Diane Williams. He had fourteen grandchildren. Mason (Rebecca) Stewart, Michael (Anne) Micsky, Katie Kalchthaler, Rebekah (Andrew) Mense, Paige Stewart, Matthew Landfried, Hannah (Nick) Cianci, Taylor Micsky, Megan Veverka, Andrew Landfried, Kaitlin Landfried, Erica Jordan, Ashley Black, and Stacy Black. Jack had thirteen great grandchildren: Haylie, Zooey, Andi, George, Teddy, Max, Teresa, Nicholas, Samuel, James, Reid, Nolan, and Lucas.
Jack is preceded in death, by his parents, John and Florence Kalchthaler, in laws, Ralph and Alice Greco, sister in laws, Elaine Buckiso, and Judy Kalchthaler, and brother in laws, Mike Buckiso and Kenneth Johnson.
Services:
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday, 3/4/25, in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Greenville with Fr. Brandon Kleckner, Pastor of the Church, as Celebrant. Family and friends will be received on Monday, 3/3/25, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM in Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St. Greenville. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 85 N. High St. Greenville, PA 16125.
