John J. “Jack” Reed, Jr., age 85, of Quartermile Rd., Hempfield Twp., Greenville passed away Monday morning, December 30, 2024, in his residence.
He was born February 17, 1939 in Bellevue, PA to John J. “Joe” and Catherine F. (Hughes) Reed, Sr. Jack was a 1957 graduate of Penn High School and had attended Youngstown State University. He served in the United States Army from 1962 – 1964, stationed at Fort Knox, KY. Jack was employed as a factory representative for the Clarksburg Casket Co., Clarksburg, WV, from 1979 until his retirement in 2002. He previously had worked as a factory representative for the Erie Burial Case Co. for 14 years.
Jack attended First Presbyterian Church, Greenville for many years. He served on the Mercer Borough Council from 1967 – 1972 and was a past member of the Greenville Country Club and the Iroquois Boating and Fishing Club, Conneaut Lake. Jack was an avid tennis player and enjoyed boating and fishing in Canada. Two of his favorite pastimes included riding his motorcycle and tinkering with cars.
On June 5, 1964, Jack married the former Barbara Jean Amon; she survives.
He is survived by two daughters: Melinda J. (Joseph) Fadden of Waterford and Kathryn J. Reed of Corry; a son, Kristen J. (Teresa) Reed, of Waleska, GA; and five grandchildren: Lisa Woodard, Amanda Morrow, Jordin Reed, Lauren Fadden, and Lindsey Fadden.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents.
Services:
A Funeral Service will be held at 2PM on Friday, 1/3/25, in Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 366-368 S. Main St. Greenville with Rev. Eric Peters, Pastor of Fredonia United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Military Honors will be rendered at the conclusion of the service by Greenville VFW Post #3374 Honor Guard. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home on 1/3/25 from 1 PM until time of service. Burial will be in Transfer Cemetery.
