Joseph M. Piper, Jr.

Joseph M. Piper, Jr., age 94, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024, in UPMC Horizon Greenville.

He was born on November 15, 1929 in Mt. Pleasant, PA to Joseph Piper Sr. and Leona (Johnson) Piper. Joe attended East Huntington High School and worked as a dairy farmer for many years in the Mt. Pleasant area before moving to Greenville and ultimately retiring from the maintenance department at St. Paul Homes in 1995. After his retirement, he worked part-time in maintenance at the Shenango Valley Mall and as a driver for Greenville Motors and ADESA Car Auction.

Joe was a member of Hillside Presbyterian Church, Greenville where he formerly served as an elder and trustee. He was a member and past exalted ruler of Greenville B. P. O. E. #145, a member and past King Lion of the Greenville Lions Club where he served on the Lions’ Board of Directors, headed up Lions Club mint sales for many years, and was a recipient of the prestigious Melvin Jones Award. He also enjoyed serving as a regular Bingo caller at the Greenville Senior Center and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.

He married the former Martha Bair on May 15, 1953; she survives.

Also surviving are a son, Joseph Piper of Houston, TX; daughters Lori (Clay) Smith of Harmonsburg, Holly (Ken) Pschirer of Ellwood City, and Jill Robinson of Greenville; a sister Becky (Skip) Stants of Mt. Pleasant; sisters in law Joanne Piper of Mt. Pleasant and Ellen Piper of Latrobe; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ben Piper, Denny Piper, and Curt Piper, a sister Sara Suter and her husband Quinten, a son-in-law Jeff Robinson, and a daughter-in-law Myrna Piper.

Services:

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, 8/10/24, at 2:00 PM in Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 366-368 S. Main St. Greenville with Rev. Sean Hall officiating. Family and friends may call from 4PM – 7PM on Friday, 8/9/24, in the funeral home. B. P. O. E. Post #145 will conduct an Elks’ service at 7:00 PM Friday in the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, PA.
