Judith A. Hodge

Powhatan, VA

Judith Ann Hodge, Powhatan, VA and Venice, FL, formerly of Greenville, PA passed away Sunday, November 24th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born January 16, 1949, in Grove City, Pennsylvania to Harry and Jean Ann McNutt. She was formerly married to James Barron with whom she had three daughters. She married Gerald Britton Hodge on October 10, 1999. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Gerald Britton Hodge.

Judy was a graduate of Grove City High School, St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing, and Thiel College and served honorably in the United States Army Reserves.

Survivors: Judy is survived by daughter Jessica Crompton and husband Matthew and Granddaughters Julia and Madilynn of Powhatan, Virginia, daughter Julie Yevchak and husband Chris and Granddaughter Ashlyn of York, South Carolina, daughter Angelyn May and husband Samuel and Grandchildren Rylie, Kaylie, Nathan and Ryen of Supply, North Carolina. She is also survived by three step-children: Cherie Moshier and her husband Gary and step-grandchildren Katie, Mike and Jackie of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, David Hodge and wife Wendy and step-grandchildren Wes, Max and Ellie of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Susan Jackson of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Judy is survived also by her brother Todd and wife Jan McNutt of Sarasota, Florida and brother Dave and wife Vickie McNutt of Corsica, Pennsylvania.

Judy was a previous member of the First United Methodist Church of Greenville and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville, PA.

Judy was a dedicated nurse for over three decades, predominantly at the Greenville Hospital System. In addition to her career in nursing, she further dedicated her life to caring for the people she loved.

Judy was the best role model for strength. She was the definition of resilience and determination. Her will to live was admirable and inspiring to all those who knew her. Her love of life, being with those she loved most, as well as her love of God, sustained her throughout a 19-year battle with metastatic cancer. Mom had no fear and was courageous throughout all of life’s obstacles; she had complete trust and faith in God. She was a tremendous example and testament of faith.

Mom was supportive, selfless, encouraging and always there for each of us. Mom was the rock and foundation of our family and to many of her friends. She was the best example of a loving, nurturing mother and grandmother. She instilled a love of the beach and ocean in us. She loved to ski, body surf, play basketball, volleyball, golf, tennis, kayak, bicycle, run and walk. A talented athlete and fierce competitor, Judy played with the same intensity whether on the volleyball court or playing a board game. As recently as a week before her passing, she was still playing volleyball with her granddaughter and walking in the rain. She never stopped.

Judy modeled true love for us through her marriage to Jerry (our Papa). They enjoyed so many wonderful experiences together – traveling from Antarctica to Europe and everywhere in between – and enjoying life to the fullest on Pymatuning lake. Later in life, she again became a caregiver, providing Jerry the special love and care he needed.

Judy loved all the Pittsburgh professional sports teams, specifically the Steelers. She had endless pride in our beautiful country and supported all the U.S. Armed Forces.

Judy embodied complete trust and faith in our Lord and Savior. She loved to remain active with her Christian family, regardless of where she lived, as well as her golf families in Pennsylvania, Florida and Virginia. Mom had so many dear friendships that span across the decades of her life and the many places she lived that we will continue to cherish. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Her legacy will inspire us to remain strong in faith to tackle obstacles head on.
