Following the service at the funeral home, all are invited to
the Greenville Railroad Park for a final ringing of the whistles
and bells. Inurnment will be in Rocky Glen Cemetery, Adamsville, PA
Lee R. Greenfield, Sr., 82 years old, formally of Greenville, and lately of Ludowici and Hinesville, GA departed this life Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Coastal Manor, Ludowici, GA. He started life on “Life’s Railway to Heaven,” January 14, 1941 in Greenville, PA. Born to William M. and Marie Madden Greenfield, Greenville, PA, where he lived his life until moving to Georgia in 2020.
He graduated in the first graduating class from the new Greenville High School in 1959. He married Linda (Pfaff) Greenfield on September 25, 1964 having 59 years together. They were blessed with 2 children: Lee R. Greenfield, Jr. (Carisa) of Hinesville, GA and Joy L. Greenfield (Laura) of Greenville. They are grandparents to Grace Greenfield, Lillian (Lily) Greenfield, and Wesley Greenfield of Hinesville and Toccoa Falls, GA. Also, Joshua Cashdollar.
Lee loved studying his Bible and living for Jesus. He was a member of the Oak Grove Church. From early childhood he loved railroads. Throughout his life he worked for Penn Central, Conrail, Railroad at Gowanda New York, and Oil Creek & Titusville Lines. He had many pieces of model railroads. His biggest thrill was being the one who saved the biggest steam switch engine #304 and now is #604 located at the Railroad Park, Greenville, PA. He wrote letters to Bessemer Railroad where it was stored in their roundhouse. He contacted Greenville Borough, Senator Bob Robbins, Greenville Steel Car. His dream was to have a Railroad Park for people to visit, “so old can remember and the young can know.” With the help of many people working together, the Greenville Railroad Park was formed. Lee also worked for Hodge Foundry and R.D. Werner Co.
He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren and a brother, David L. Greenfield, of Florida, many nieces, nephews, and great nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by 9 brothers and one sister. Lee has completed his trip on, “The Railway to Heaven.”
