She was born Lois Madeline Cribbs on Aug. 31, 1932, the daughter of the late Ralph and Mabel (Knupp) Cribbs of Indiana, Pa. She was a 1949 graduate of Indiana High School. On Sept. 5, 1953, she married the late Perry Hunter Wetzel of Indiana. Together, they welcomed five children and 14 grandchildren and were happily married for 61 years until his passing in 2014. In addition to being a devoted mother and grandmother, she served as an office manager during her husband’s management of the former Agway Feed Mill in Transfer.
She also volunteered her time to many organizations. She was a long-time committee chairperson of the Republican Women and a dedicated poll-worker. She also was a member of the Pennsylvania Farmers Association, for which she served many years as newsletter editor, was a member of the Greenville Order of the Eastern Star, and served on the advisory board of Rainbow Girls. In addition, she was a member of Fredonia United Methodist Church where she served many years as treasurer. Lois was an avid bridge player throughout her life and was recognized often in the local newspapers for her many winnings, even into her 90s. She also was a fabulous baker, tantalizing others with her pies and baked goods at every social event.
She is survived by her five children, William (Kerri Canon) Wetzel of Easley, S.C., Kay Marquardt of Milwaukee, Janice (Ronald) Sanders of Norristown, Brenda Morris of Chardon, Ohio, and Lori (Daniel) Morris of Pittsburgh. She also is survived by 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Betty Solinski of Aliquippa and Carol Hullihen of Phoenix. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Engelleitner; two brothers, John and Robert Cribbs; a son-in-law, Michael Morris; and a granddaughter, Dyana Sanders.
