Neal D. Lineman, age 88, of Mercer Rd. Delaware Twp., Greenville, passed away Friday evening February 24,2023 in UPMC Greenville with his family by his side.
He was born in Van, PA on September 15, 1934 to Martin J. and Marie (Madden) Lineman. Neal was a 1952 graduate of Penn High School, where he excelled in wrestling and football, served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1957 and received his B.S. in Physical Education in 1961 from Purdue University, where he was a member of the wrestling team.
He retired in 1988 from Reynolds School District after twenty-seven years of employment, working as a Health and Physical Education Teacher along with teaching Drivers Education. Neal served as the Reynolds Wrestling Coach from 1961-1977, finishing with a career record of 201 - 10. His teams recorded ten undefeated seasons and won the PIAA AA State Championship in 1977. Five individual state champions were crowned during his tenure along with many other medalists. Neal received numerous local, state and national awards for his accomplishments in coaching, including being inducted to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2001. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Greenville, was a life member of Reynolds VFW Post #7599 and was a past volunteer of the Greenville Good Shepherd Center.
Throughout his life he was a fanatic about physical fitness, working out religiously, running and competing in 5k events. ln addition, he truly loved his family and enjoyed attending and supporting his grandchildren's many events.
On August 2, 1958 he married the former Mary C. Reno, she survives. Also surviving are two daughters; Robyn Weaver and her husband Curt and Vicki Hildebrand and her husband Ted, both of Greenville, a son; David Lineman and his wife Dolly of Greenville, two brothers; LeRoy Greenfield of Georgia and David Greenfield of Florida, five grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father, his mother; Marie Lineman-Greenfield, a sister; Sis Bee and four brothers; Wes Lineman, Bub Lineman, Glen Lineman and Gene Lineman.
