Richard F. “Dick” Sherwood, age 84, of 18th St. Pymatuning Twp., Greenville, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday morning, February 15, 2023 in UPMC Jameson.

Dick was born in Edinboro PA on October 7, 1938 to Hubert J. and Mary S. (Fuller) Sherwood. He was a 1956 graduate of Youngsville High School and received his B.S. in Health and Physical Education from Slippery Rock University in 1960. Dick was employed by Reynolds School District as a Physical Education Teacher and Home School Visitor for thirty-one years, retiring in 1991. While at Reynolds, he served as the first Head Wrestling Coach in 1961 as well as the first Head Track & Field Coach that same year. Dick continued to coach Track & Field until 1981 and was most proud of the 1964 undefeated team. He also served as an assistant basketball coach and as the Athletic Director. Dick was active with the Reynolds High School Alumni Assoc. and served on the 50th year anniversary committee and was active with Reynolds Key Club.

After retirement, he enjoyed part time work at places that included, Pine Hill Golf Course, St. Paul’s Without Walls and driving van for special needs individuals for Anderson Coach and Travel. Dick was a past member of Hillside Presbyterian Church, where he had served on the Board of Directors. He was a member of over fifty years of F&AM Eureka Lodge #290, where he had also been a past Master. Dick was a past member and past President of the Kiwanis Club of Transfer, served as a past LT. Governor of Division 2 of PA Kiwanis and had been a volunteer at the Good Shepherd Center. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed hunting and most of all, attending and supporting his grandchildren’s events.

On June 9, 1984 he married the former Karen C. Auden, she survives. Also surviving are his children; Stacy L. Durso and her husband Dave of Greenville and Scott J. Sherwood and his wife Linda of Wilmington, NC, two step-children; Jennifer A. Guikema and her husband Kevin of Middleville, MI and Brian A. Mack and his wife Nikki of Pittsburgh, a sister; Sue Scott of Bear Lake, PA, a brother-in-law; Tim Wise of Edinboro, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister; Peggy wise, an infant grandson; Joshua Mack, a brother-in-law; Gilbert Scott and his previous wife; Lori Lee Sherwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dick Sherwood Athletic Scholarship for Reynolds High School, 104 18th St., Greenville, PA 16125.
