Thomas Arnold Duda, age 80, of Hempfield Ave., Hempfield Twp., Greenville, passed away peacefully of a prolonged illness with his wife Carole at his side Thursday morning, April 18, 2024. He was born in New Castle, PA on February 5, 1944 to Stephen Michael and Melania “Molly” (Piatek) Duda.
Tom was a proud 1961 graduate of Union High School, New Castle and went on to the Pittsburgh Barber School, graduating in 1962. He began his career at Vince’s Barber Shop in New Castle before moving to Greenville in 1963, where he worked for Davis Barber Shop until 1980. Tom and his partner Denny Javens then opened Javens and Duda Barber Shop, which operated until 2009. After closing his shop, he worked for the Men’s Room until 2019 and retired from Surano Family Styling on August 1, 2023. He was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Fitzmartin Council #1446 and the Greenville Family Moose Center #276. Tom loved music especially jazz, even teaching himself to play the clarinet and saxophone. He also enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, biking and walking and watching baseball and football.
On September 19, 1969 he married the former Carole Jeanne Pickens, she survives. Also surviving is his son Jeffrey Duda and his wife Allison of Latrobe, PA; three grandchildren, Annie Duda, Madeline Duda and Jack Duda, sisters-in-laws, Nancy Puggie of Phoenix, AZ, Edwina Johnson and her husband Jerry of Clarks Mills, Joanie Pickens of Greenville and Carol Duda of New Castle; brother-in-law Jon “Jack” Pickens and wife Colleen of Pulaski. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Delores Pitzer a brother Ronald Duda and a brother-in-law Tracel Pickens.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael School Endowment Fund, 85 N. High St., Greenville, PA 16125. Arrangements have been entrusted to Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St., Greenville.
