William J. "Rook" Mitchell, Jr.

William J. “Rook” Mitchell, Jr., age 80, of Summit Twp, Conneaut Lake, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2024, in his residence.

He was born November 30, 1943 in Pittsburgh to William J. and Dorothy (Marshall) Mitchell and graduated from Crafton High School. Rook served in the United States Air Force from 1961 – 1965 and had been employed by the 

V. A. Hospital, Oakland where he retired as a Stationary Engineer.

He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and was a member of ABATE. In his younger years, Rook played Racquetball and softball. He was an avid Steelers fan and truly loved his little dog, “Dennis.”

In his last years, Rook faced challenges after a life-altering accident that left him with limited mobility. Despite the obstacles he encountered, his determination and positive outlook never wavered. He did things his way, and never let his circumstances get him down or hold him back. Those close to him will remember his daily inspirational and positive greetings, and he will be missed.

Rook is survived by a daughter, Janet A. Mitchell, and her companion Paul of O’Hara Twp., PA; a son, Russell W. Mitchell, of O’Hara Twp., PA; a brother, Robert (Virginia) Mitchell, of Oakdale, PA; and a niece, Kristin (Chris) Nardei of Oakdale, PA.

He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, William Mitchell.

Services:

A Funeral Service will be held at 12:30 PM on Monday, 12/2/24, in Loutzenhiser Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St. Greenville, with Senior Chaplain William Stankiewicz officiating. Greenville VFW Post #3374 Honor Guard will render military honors at the conclusion of the service. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home on 12/2/24 from 11 AM until time of service. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg.
