William Frank Thomas, age 82, of Mill St., Greenville West Salem Twp. passed away Sunday morning, March 26, 2023 in his residence. Frank was of the Russian Orthodox faith.
He was born on April 3, 1940 in Clymer, PA to Earl Henry Thomas and Elva Geraldine “Jerry” (Bartlebagh) Reagle. Frank married Annette Kay Stormoen of Minneapolis, MN on September 13, 1972 in Long Beach, CA. She preceded him in death on October 11, 2020. He grew up on a dairy farm in Hempfield Twp. where he helped feed, milk, bottle and deliver milk to people's door. He played piano, clarinet, and banjo. He enjoyed roller skating, small game hunting, pan fishing, and working at his camp in Kane, PA. He liked watching birds. He loved his dogs and nephew James Thomas.
Frank was employed at the Greenville Steel Car Co. and Oakes and McClelland Lumber Companies in 1956 and 1957. He entered the US Navy on January 22, 1959. He earned the good conduct medal, national defense service medal, Vietnam campaign medal, meritorious unit citation (Vietnam), and presidential citation ribbon for Korea before retiring as 1st class personal man after 20 years, while in the service he was awarded many bowling and volleyball trophies. He belonged to the Italian Home Club, Greenville FOE, Greenville Coin Club (Life Member), Moose Club, Elks Club, Greenville VFW, Reynolds VFW (life member), Jamestown Fireman's Club, Sharon Russian Club, Kane Eagles (life member), Wilcox Sportsman's Club (life member), Wilcox American Legion, Harthegig Conservation Club, Federation of Sportsman's Clubs of Mercer County, and he was a (honorary member) of the Paralyzed Veteran's of American.
Frank had been awarded the Harthegig Award, the old timer's award, above and beyond award, and the order of the green tie award for his conservation efforts. After retiring from the Navy he worked in Ohio at the Sealtest Plant where they made cottage cheese as a member of the maintenance department. In August 1978 he was hired at Hempfield Twp. as a Township Maintenance worker. He had to retire after 23 1/2 years due to arthritis.
Frank was a large donator to the Salvation Army, veteran's organizations, Strayhaven, fire departments, children's hospitals, Mercer County youth field day, Greenville little league, wildcat park in Ludlow, PA, and various children's activities. Frank enjoyed talking and joking with friends, but his best friends were his dogs Oliver and spoiled brat (Molly). He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, his parents, a brother, his stepfather Donald W. Reagle and many wonderful friends. Remember AMF (Always my Friend).
A Service of Military Honor's will be rendered at 11:00am on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 in the Chapel of Shenango Valley Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St., Greenville.
